Your first day in Kigali

By Nexus Tours and Travels · Published 30 October 2026

A smooth first day starts before your flight lands. Arrange the essentials first, then decide how much exploring you want to do.

Before you depart

Check the entry requirements that apply to your nationality, passport and purpose of travel with Rwanda's Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration. Confirm current requirements again before departure rather than relying on an old travel post.

Make your pickup easy

Send your flight number, arrival date, scheduled landing time, passenger count, luggage requirements and accommodation address to your transport contact. Agree on the meeting point and ask what happens if your flight is delayed. Avoid posting booking documents or passport details publicly.

Confirm when you can check in

A morning arrival does not automatically include an early check-in. Ask your accommodation to confirm access, luggage storage and any extra charges. For a late-night arrival, agree on how you will collect keys and reach your host.

Keep the first day flexible

Allow time for arrival formalities, the transfer and a rest. A meal and one nearby stop may suit you better than a full itinerary after a long flight. Ask us to plan around your energy level and check-in time.

Ask Eric about arrival transport ↗
How to plan a Kigali day tour

By Nexus Tours and Travels · Published 30 October 2026

Begin with what you enjoy: history, contemporary art, local shopping, food or simply getting to know the city. Pick two or three priorities so the day feels personal and comfortable.

A flexible sample day

  • Morning: meet your driver or guide and start with a history or cultural stop that matches your interests.
  • Midday: pause for lunch, with your dietary preferences discussed in advance.
  • Afternoon: choose a market, an art space or a city viewpoint, then return to your accommodation at an agreed time.

This is an itinerary idea, not a fixed package. Specific venues, opening times, entry charges and transport are checked when preparing your quotation.

Ask what the price covers

Confirm whether the quote includes a guide, vehicle, fuel, pickup and drop-off, meals, entry tickets, parking and any additional stops. Explain if children, luggage or mobility needs affect vehicle choice.

Travel with consideration

Ask before photographing people. Follow each venue's guidance, especially at places of remembrance, and allow the time and respectful conduct the setting requires. Leave space in the schedule for traffic and weather.

What to pack for Rwanda

By Nexus Tours and Travels · Published 30 October 2026

Pack for your planned activities rather than assuming one outfit suits the whole trip. Visit Rwanda recommends light clothing for warm days, a layer for cool evenings and a lightweight waterproof jacket for mountain conditions.

For city days

  • Comfortable walking shoes and light, respectful clothing.
  • A light sweater or jacket, sun protection and a small day bag.
  • Your phone charger, a suitable travel adapter and the contact details for your accommodation and transport.

For a forest or nature itinerary

Ask the activity provider about footwear, clothing, fitness expectations, age restrictions and equipment before booking. Rain protection and sturdier shoes may be appropriate, but requirements vary by activity. Confirm any permits and meeting times in advance.

Keep essentials accessible

Keep travel documents, booking confirmations and your personal essentials within easy reach. Bring the items you rely on rather than assuming they will be available at every stop.

Check the forecast close to your travel date and adjust your packing to your exact itinerary.

Before you travel

A few useful answers.

Can I request a trip that is not listed here?

Yes. Tell us your dates, group size, interests and budget. We will discuss what can be arranged and confirm the details in a quotation.

Where can I find prices and inclusions?

Prices depend on your itinerary, group size, transport, accommodation and activities. Your quotation will state the total price, what is included and excluded, and any applicable booking terms.

Can I book and pay directly on this website?

Start your enquiry through WhatsApp or email. After agreeing on your quotation, you can pay by MoMo, bank transfer, or Visa or Mastercard through an online payment link before arrival. Card payment by POS is also available on arrival according to your agreed payment schedule. This website does not offer instant booking or an embedded checkout. Only pay after receiving your written quotation or invoice and verified payment instructions.

Will you add more tours and travel stories?

Our first practical guides cover arriving in Kigali, planning a city tour and packing for Rwanda. Explore the travel journal. We will build on these as we develop our tour collection.

Let's plan something memorable

Let’s plan your next journey.
